Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.
An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar Privacy Policy applies. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.


Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract location data from images on the site.


Cookies

  • If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These last for one year.

  • If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to test if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

  • When you log in, several cookies are set to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen option cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.

  • If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. It includes no personal data and indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.


Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content behaves the same as if the visitor had visited the other site. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction, especially if you are logged in to that site.


Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.


How long we retain your data

  • Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely to recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically.

  • For registered users, personal information is stored in user profiles. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information anytime (except usernames). Administrators can also view and edit that information.


Your data rights

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data, including any data you provided. You can also request deletion of personal data we hold about you, except for data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons.


Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
