However, poorly designed digital content, web sites, applications, technology, or tools might create barriers that prevent people from using digital assets.\r\n\r\nWe usually address<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>diverse<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>group of learners \/ users.\u00a0Accessibility refers to whether or not a product or service may be used by anyone, regardless of how they come across it. As an educator \/ teacher \/ content developer we design the content that must be\r\naccessible to all. Meaning providing equal access and equal opportunity to everyone. Everyone here means people with diverse abilities.\r\n\r\nThe<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/development\/desa\/disabilities\/convention-on-the-rights-of-persons-with-disabilities\/article-9-accessibility.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>recognises access to information and communications technologies, including the Web, as a basic human right. While designing content for e learning, not only the content, the platform that is used to deliver the material should be accessible and support accessibility. Should be reachable to diverse group of learners. For example learners with vision impairment, hearing or cognitive impairment might be accessing the content.\r\nThey should be able to access the content as regular learners.\r\n\r\n<strong>Why do we consider designing accessible e-content?<\/strong>\r\nAccording to<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/disability-and-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHO (World health Organization) 15%<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>of world population are living with some disability. According to its report on blindness and vision impairment (as on Feb 2021)<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/blindness-and-visual-impairment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Globally, at least 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment.<\/a> (https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/blindness-and-visual-impairment)\r\n\r\nAs on 2 nd mar 2021 WHO report says: \u201cOver 5% of the world\u2019s population \u2013 or 430 million people \u2013 require rehabilitation to address their \u2018disabling\u2019 hearing loss. It is estimated that<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/deafness-and-hearing-loss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by 2050 over 700 million people \u2013 or one in every ten people \u2013 will have disabling hearing loss.<\/a>\u201d (https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/deafness-and-hearing-loss) These numbers alerts us to focus on accessible content design practices.\r\n\r\n<strong>Accessibility definition<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<em>The quality of being easy to approach, reach, enter, speak with, use, or adapted for use by people with disabilities \u2013 from dictionary.com<\/em>\r\n\r\n<em><strong>In simple words accessibility is<\/strong>\r\n\u2022 The ability to get something easily\r\n\u2022 The quality or characteristic of something that makes it possible to approach, enter, or use it\r\n\u2022 Ensuring content\/device\/environment etc. is available to *everybody<\/em>\r\n<blockquote><em><strong>The power of the Web is in its universality.
